Double skin log cabins are a type of log cabin that is made with two layers of logs. Both the inner layer and outer layer is made from the same thickness log, commonly 44mm although thicker logs can also be used. We offer 68 and 90mm logs. The two layers of logs are then joined together with a tongue and groove joint.

Double skin log cabins offer a number of advantages over single skin log cabins. They are more energy-efficient, as the air gap between the two layers of logs provides insulation. They are also more durable, as the two layers of logs protect each other from the elements.

If you are looking for a log cabin that is energy-efficient, durable, and attractive, then a double skin log cabin is a good option.

If you are considering a double skin log cabin, there are a few things you should keep in mind:

  • Cost: Double skin log cabins are more expensive than single skin log cabins. This is because they require more materials and labor to build.
  • Weight: Double skin log cabins are heavier than single skin log cabins. This is because they have two layers of logs. You will need to make sure that your foundation is strong enough to support the weight of the cabin.
  • Maintenance: Double skin log cabins require more maintenance than single skin cabins. This is because the air gap between the two layers of logs can trap moisture, which can lead to mold and mildew. You will need to make sure that you clean and seal the cabin regularly to prevent this from happening.

Overall, double skin log cabins are a good option for people who are looking for a durable, energy-efficient, and attractive log cabin. However, they are more expensive and require more maintenance than single skin log cabins.

Our double skin log cabins are constructed from the highest quality timber with a 44mm twin wall structure and a 50mm cavity between the two walls. The logs interlock at the corners, giving extra sturdiness to the structure. The benefit of double skin means that these log cabins are easily insulated between the log walls, we recommend using a Rockwool product or similar. The extra levels of insulation makes them suitable for year round use providing extra warmth and sound insulation. We highly recommend upgrading the standard external door and window units to the Premium fit to reduce the potential for condensation build up on the glass. Premium fit doors and windows provide much higher levels of insulation on a par with that achieved by the double wall construction.

Here are some of the benefits of double skin log cabins:

  • Energy efficiency: Double skin log cabins are more energy-efficient than single skin log cabins. The air gap between the two layers of logs provides insulation, which helps to keep the cabin warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
  • Durability: Double skin log cabins are more durable than single skin log cabins. The two layers of logs protect each other from the elements, making the cabin more resistant to damage from wind, rain, and snow.
  • Aesthetics: Double skin log cabins are often considered to be more aesthetically pleasing than single skin log cabins. The two layers of logs create a more traditional look, which some people find to be more attractive.
