Garden Cabins Best Way To Add Value To Home

Having garden summer houses or cabins is not just a great way to provide an attractive extra space for use in your garden; it is one of the most cost-effective ways of giving your home more room.

This point was made in an article by the Daily Telegraph, which noted the high popularity of adding an extra space driven by increased working from home, which has led to trades website Rated People listing it as the most popular form of home improvement.

Not only is it an affordable way of providing a convenient extra space that can have all sorts of uses - after all, you won’t be working every day - it also adds value to a home.

To highlight this point, the paper quoted Grant Letts of estate agent Curchods, who said: "We recently marketed four comparative properties for sale and the only one featuring a garden room sold first."

Mr Letts added that the investment in a garden room appreciates at a ratio of 1.25, which means, for instance, a top-of-the-range garden room assembled at a cost of £50,000 will add £62,000 to the value of a home.

Of course, many a garden home or log cabin will cost nowhere near that amount, but the principle of added value still applies and it is also far less disruptive than an extension or loft conversion as it need not touch the fabric of the existing home.

It may be a further sign of the rising popularity of garden rooms and log cabins that consumer website Which? Has produced its own buyers' guide to them.

This aims to help people understand the differences between the various kinds of garden building, understand what is needed depending on how they are used and how to get good value for money, as well as addressing practical questions such as whether planning permission will be needed.
